The Alaska Supreme Court just announced that they would not block the release of the ethics investigation into "Troopergate". This just came across the AP wire as of 10 minutes ago so we do not have the full details.

It's a fucked-up situation and as much as I beat on Palin for her general idiocy and cluelessness, I'll admit that the whole basis of the situation- her sister trying to break away from an abusive and deranged cop- elicit some sympathy. I've read the reports and the guy was a fucking maniac- a heavily-armed drunk with an extreme penchant for violence and even Tazed his own kid but was never disciplined or placed on leave and told to seek counseling.

But as is often the case, if Palin had come clean about the entire sordid affair, she might have been surprised to find people would have supported her. But instead, there were lies and cover-ups and staffers ignoring subpoenas- in other words, the SOP of the GOP- see also: Watergate, Iran/Contra, and the last 7 years of the Prodigal Idiot Son who is, to cop Hunter Thompson's phrase, so congenitally crooked that he needs the help of his servants to screw his pants on every morning.

It will be interesting to see what the report contains and gosh, wouldn't it just suck if it exonerated Sarah-cakes on the original charge but goes after her for the cover-up? Given the swarms of vultures coming home to roost in the Big Tent of the GOP, what's a few more joining the party, eh?

And two final notes- the stock market got fucking HAMMERED this afternoon, losing about 500 points in the final hour.

And last.... all of these crisis (wtf is the plural of "crisis"???) may well serve to drive a stake in the heart of the GOP. As soon as the elections are over, there is going to be a helluva lot of finger-pointing and recriminations and the weasels are going to rip one another to shreds. The Dems will be in OK shape, but I predict we will see a huge schism erupt in the GOP between the religions nutjobs like Palin who believe the Bible to be completely literal and the social moderate/fiscal conservative who tanked the first bail-out package.

Right now everyone's just trying to get re-elected. Some pundits have the GOP losing enough Senate seats that if Obama's elected, they won't be able to even filibuster.

It's going to be a helluva ride these final 3 1/2 weeks.

Now, off to the library to see if they have Barr's book so I can make a decision about who I will vote for.
